Match Report
Finborough School Girls-U17A vs  St Joseph's College, Ipswich Girls-U16A
On: Tuesday, 02 Nov 2021
Venue: Away

The team began well having lots of possession and goal scoring opportunities; forcing saves from the opposition goal keeper a number of times. The formation appeared to work even though we were not really exploiting the wide areas when building our attack. We relied on our strong attacking players to use their skill and pace to beat their defence which they did effectively. As the game progressed however their defenders became better at jumping in front to make timely interceptions just before our players received the ball. Our press also appeared a little too spread apart which allowed some penetrating balls straight through the middle of our half. It was from one of these balls they they forged an attack and one a short corner. From this a rocketing shot from their play maker scored their goal. A half time team talked focused on altering the press and encouraging our forwards to use skill to beat their goal keeper rather than panicking and shooting right at her. The second half was a more successful one. The press was highly effective in turning over the ball and we had more attacking chances. We used wide spaces more often and Fee dribbled strongly around the goal keeper to put it in the back of the net for a 1-1 draw!
