U16 Suffolk Cup Competition match reports!

The U16 girls hockey team played against St Jo’s in their first game drawing 1-1 but with two missed opportunities to score the winner we were the better team! The second game against Woodbridge was a more challenging game as they were more skilful and played with a better structure! This actually worked in our favour as it encouraged us to spread out to pick players up and when we turned the ball over our positions enabled some quick and decisive attacks. Fee’s speed and skill was difficult for any defence to cope with. Team confidence grew as we gained more and more possession and managed to thwart attacks as a result of some decisive and proactive defending demonstrated particularly well by Emma Smith and Georgina which then instilled confidence in Victoria and Liv Newcombe! We were losing this game 1-0 but they came back to win it 2-1! A bullet shot from our short corner routine (Eva and Livi Hyndman) helped to secure the winner! Other stand out performances came from captain Alice whose confidence grew throughout the afternoon enabling her to carry the ball more and make some really decisive and accurate passes just at the right moments! Sophie K was also outstanding and is improving with every game she plays and co-captain Liv Hyndman who was everywhere on the pitch distributing the ball where and when it was needed even with a sore thumb!

The team went into the last game with heads high and everyone did their part to secure a 1-0 win over RHS who ended up as runners up! Two wins and a draw meant that we were the winners of the U16 County Cup Competition and will go through to the next round!!
