On: Monday, 08 Nov 2021
Venue: Away

Today’s fixture was a tournament which saw ten teams split into two groups of five.

The Finborough boys had a tough first fixture, losing 3-0 to Nayland, the eventual tournament winners. Charlie and Sam made some fantastic blocks and we defended exceptionally well as a team against some tricky attacking play, losing to three very good strikes. Henry also pulled off two brilliant saves.

The second match was against Littlegarth C. Ted and Freddie peppered the opposition goal with shots, but the Littlegarth goalkeeper put in a tremendous display and produced four excellent saves. Harvey also hit the post late in the game, which finished 0-0.

Next followed a 1-1 draw vs Heathlands. We conceded an early goal against the run of play, but didn’t give up. Superb teamwork resulted in George equalising with a tidy finish.

Our final group match was a 3-0 victory vs St Margaret’s. Three wonderful goals from Ted, Freddie and Benny capped a professional display. This propelled the team to a 2nd place finish in the group, and a match up against Littlegarth B in the third place play off.

Finborough dominated the final game versus Littlegarth B. Ted showed intricate footwork on numerous occasions, while the boys fashioned several good chances as a team. Unfortunately, Littlegarth scored with their only chance of the game, which ended 1-0.

4th place overall was a solid achievement and the boys played with smiles on their faces. With a little more luck we may have scored a few more goals, but the team should be congratulated for their positive attitude and effort throughout.
